Some observations for my week have been: What do I do right? Why do friends ask for advice when they aren't going to follow it? And Wow, those fifth graders are starting to grow on me after 6 years!
This being my 7th year at my job, I'm on my 6th year with a particular class of children. This bunch is truly a mixed bag of personalities. Many of these personalities are so 'big' that they have trouble existing in the same room together. I've been counting down the years until we send them off to the middle school, but in the last few weeks I'm finally seeing some changes in quite a few. Oh my gosh, there is a sign of maturity! A few of our 'larger' personalities have moved or are 'away' for a while so I've had the opportunity to get to know the others a little more with less conflict in the room. There are some genuinely sweet children under some of those little angst exteriors and I'm so grateful to see it! At the end of the school year, I may feel sad to see them go. I would never have expected this circa 2005 when they first tottled in as those cranky little kindergarteners. This has been a major revelation. :)
Onto other news, spring break is only two weeks away. Woo hoo! I'm making plans for Disney and Universal studios. My plan is to ride everything (within reason of course), even the roller coasters. I owe myself at least 5 good screams since last August and I figure this ought to get them all out. Holding in screams isn't healthy. They have to come out some time and better on a park ride than a person close to you.
